WTC: India Must Win 4 of 5 Tests Against Aussies to Secure Final Spot!
MUMBAI: India, which recently faced a whitewash against New Zealand, has slipped from the top position to second in the ICC Test Championship rankings. During this period, India’s win percentage in 14 Test matches has dropped to 58.33. Australia, previously in second place, has ascended to the top with a win percentage of 62.50, while Sri Lanka holds the third position with 55.56. Meanwhile, New Zealand has risen to fourth place with a win percentage of 54.54.
For India to secure a spot in the finals without relying on other teams’ results, they must win four out of five Tests during their upcoming tour of Australia. Otherwise, they will have to depend on the outcomes of Sri Lanka’s Test series against Australia and South Africa.
In a remarkable turn of events, in the recently concluded three match Test series played between India and New Zealand all three Tests concluded in just three days. The Test match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium wrapped up in only two and a half days. Interestingly, the matches in Bengaluru and Pune also finished within three days, with rain during the Bengaluru match preventing play for more than two days.
Batting failures have been the primary reason for India’s loss, particularly among senior batsmen Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, who experienced complete failure. Both players managed to score only 93 and 91 runs respectively across six innings in three Tests.
